Every season I get the question from journalists, usually with a big camera or running recording device in my face: what trends am I noticing (and liking) on the runways. If you have seen those video clips, chances are I look like a deer caught in the headlights: flabbergasted and embarrassed. Because I have no damn clue. I never look for what’s going to be hot and coveted. I couldn’t spot a trend unless I had some stake in the game. But I don’t. Trendy clothes are not for me. I rarely buy the latest, expensive designer stuff, nor the high street copies. If I do spend my money it’s on timeless, unrecognizable, classic pieces that will last me through several phases and locales of my life time, never on things that will be irrelevant and dated the following season. What is the point? It’s money wasted and efforts all too conformist.
But I think I spotted a trend this season!! Simply because I have always loved it: patchwork! It came in all shapes, fabrics and patterns, sometimes symmetrical, other times totally scrambled and irregular. Obviously it reminds me of the 70s, one of my favorite eras, and therefor it holds a special place in my closet. I love the leather patches at Valentino, and the way Fendi, Missoni and Yigal Azrouel updated the technique for the modern day girl. I think this trend is worth investing in because it has and always will be.

Have you seen the Fausto Puglisi catwalk??
