Ah London… grey, cold and wet. It’s how we know the city best. But I must say, since I arrived on Wednesday I have seen more sun than rain. The skies are patched with white, puffy clouds and peeks of autumn sunrays. The temperatures are cool but agreeable. It’s what fall weather should be like. And the perfect opportunity to commence an exercise in layering.
As a tribute to the first show I worked on this week, I am wearing head to toe Sass & Bide. I layered the silk, hand painted dress with a matching top and light weight knit, multi-color sweater. The beige linen blazer is Stella McCartney, and the shoes Balenciaga. The show was very well received as usual. Heidi and Sarah-Jane are very much in tune with their young, sassy customer. The mix of shimmery textures, vibrant colors and ethnic prints of this collection somehow managed to emulate a “minimal, streamlined precision” as style.com put it. The Sass & Bide team’s signature attire at the showroom is a silk button down shirt tied around the waist, which gives the sort of silhouette you see in the tail of the dress I’m wearing.
I’ve been staying at the Corinthia hotel on the Thames near Embankment. This amazing 5-star hotel just opened in April and has since launched an effective PR campaign to give the hotel a fashionable image while staying true to its classic features. The interior is a mirage of marble, fresh cut flowers, satin, moss green, padded walls and decorative carpet. Every room has heated floors, a Nespresso station, remote control light switches, walk-in closets and… a bidet!! The service is infallible and the food incomparable. And have I mentioned the 4-floor spa?? It’s apparently the largest in London and for special guests complimentary! They even have in-house acupuncturists and osteopaths! I can’t rave enough about this paradise. I watched TV in my bath tub the other night…. Sigh.
This week’s Look was photographed by my friend Magnus Unnar. He’s a regular contributor to Dazed & Confused, Purple and 10 magazine. The Corinthia and I got the royal flash treatment.
