Not even in their wildest, most obnoxious imagination could they have wished for the kind of weekend weather we just had. It’s inconceivable really, especially after the washed-out, dismal Saturdays our rain boots drudged through this year. But it wasn’t a dream, and I call it Karma, because from the moment Evelien and Sloan set foot on the rainbow-colored shores of Fire Island until our teary-eyed goodbye on Tuesday morning, the sun was shining and beaming as if it were her last chance for redemption. Every wedding shot was filled with a blue sky, or a glistening sunset or the reflective, creamy white theme. Heck, even four white swans showed up and we didn’t even rent/train them!
Because that’s what happens to good people. They are rewarded for believing in each other’s heart and finding that most precious balance. It’s like Justice Anthony Kennedy stated when the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage nationwide just two weeks ago: “In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were.” And that couldn’t be more true for my little sister and the boy she fell in love with. They are good for each other. Like, really good. They keep each other in check on so many levels, and I can’t wait to witness the rest of their startling future.
I want to thank our mom and dad for making us the children we are. Even though we’re a little bit complicated (and crazy!) at times, and we moved across oceans and seas to build a career, we have matured to love each other truthfully and unconditionally. There is no greater bond than sisterhood, and it’s thanks to your undying efforts and life-long sacrifices that we have learned to be strong, generous and curious. They say there is no such thing as good luck, but if this weekend was any indication, we are blessed with all the good fortune a family could wish for. And it’s only gonna get bigger, once we start producing some offspring of our own. Welcome to the Joos posse, Sloan!

Thanks to my beautifull children for the love you give us every day.
What a lovely and touching tribute from a clearly very proud big sister. I can relate, I am one too.

Dear Nathalie,
It’s moving to see and read how respectfull and loving you are towards your sister and now brother-in-law.
I think the following poem ” Friends” by Elizabeth Jenkings is applicable for “when good people happen to good people” ;
” I fear it’s very wrong of me
And yet I must admit,
When someone offers friendship
I want the whole of it.
I don’t want everybody else
To share my friends with me.
At least, I want one special one,
Who, indisputably,
Likes me much more than all the rest,
Who’s always on my side,
Who never cares what others say,
Who let’s me come and hide
Within his shadow, in his house-
It doesn’t matter where-
Who let’s me simply be myself,
Who’s always, always there.”
