This Wednesday, on April 8th at noon, bidding starts on the Historic Fashion & Textile sales at Augusta Auctions. Items include garments from institutions like the Strong Museum, the University of Maryland costume collection and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, estates and private collections. Live bidding is held at the “Landmark on the Park” building on the Upper West Side, but you can also register for on-line bidding. I recognize a lot of the pieces offered, like the early 70s Ossie Clark dresses and embellished Nudie suits. And the prices start low – don’t panic.
If you miss the April sales, think about going to Sturbridge, MA next month. The May auctions coincide with the legendary Brimfield Antique Week, where I shot that amazing story for Vogue with Liu Wen, and one of my first ever Tales, of Aurelie in collaboration with Nowness. It’s so worth the trip!
