The body count is at 10,000 now. Nearly 14,000 people are injured. And thousands are still missing. Dozens of historic landmarks have been destroyed and survivors are waiting to be rescued and evacuated. But help is still scarce and funding unsatisfactory.
According to the BBC, “the UN on Wednesday launched a “flash appeal” for $415m (£270m) to assist Nepal over the next three months – but on Friday it told the BBC it had so far received only $5.8m – 1.4% – in confirmed funding”. And that’s unacceptable.
In a humble attempt to help Carol Han launched New Yorkers for Nepal, a fundraiser promoted by her friends. “As a community of bright, driven, remarkable people, let’s bring our light and strength to another community that is sorely in need of both right now, by donating whatever we can and inspiring our friends and families around the world to do the same. AmeriCares, an emergency response and global health organization with a 4-star rating on Charity Navigator, will receive 100% of funds. Indiegogo Life collects no fees.”
