When Gina Rodriguez won her Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for Jane the Virgin, Kipling must have done a little victory dance, because they had just booked the actress in her very first endorsement deal. She would become the new Kipling ambassador and the Face of Summer 2015. In her new capacity she would be an active participant of their ‘Make Happy’ movement, by making surprise visits to a California university campus and “bringing happiness to students and faculty alike with the intention of inspiring others to continue the Make Happy, and giving back, experience”.
The notion of ‘pay-it-forward’ had a huge uproar in 2000 when that movie came out with Kevin Spacey and Helen Hunt. The idea was that “the practice of helping one another can spread geometrically through society, at a ratio of three to one, creating a social movement with an impact of making the world a better place.” It’s definitely become a “thing” since then, because the USA founded a Pay it Forward Movement and Foundation, and Australia the International Pay it Forward Day which “has now spread to 70 countries with over 50 state and city proclamations”. And though it’s all gone a little silent now, Kipling is deadset on keeping the burner alit.
I was on set with Miss Rodriguez in San Francisco and dressed her for a few different campus life settings. She’s a feisty Latina with a boisterous laugh and a strong head on her shoulders. She was game for everything and anything, which is a cliche I am always reluctant to use, but very true. We gave her the Joie jumpsuit and one of the Misha Nonoo dresses as a present in the end. I wonder if she wore it yet?
