Look of the Week: A Snowflake in Chanel

On Wednesday June 6th Chanel opened the exhibition of “The Little Black Jacket” photo book in New York. Karl Lagerfeld photographed and Carine Roitfeld styled 120 celebrities and fashion people in Chanel’s iconic tweed jacket, albeit revisited and reimagined in timeless, no-rules, contemporary images. I picked up somewhere that Coco refused to make the 4-pocket jacket in black and that it was originally designed for men but for today’s market her vision needed to be updated. The Little Black Jacket is now a staple in everyone’s closet and according to the book and the photos on display there’s enough different ways to wear and style it. I will be demonstrating my own take on the Chanel jacket next week with a film and photos by Marianna Rothen, in an exclusive collaboration with W magazine. I will be posting a different look every day of the week so tune in!

You should have seen me jumping up and down in my living room when my Chanel party dress arrived. I had tried on five dresses so far but this last one really took the cake, literally. I was out of my mind in love with the pompoms, fringes, shredded sleeves and marshmallow color. I felt like a snowflake, a cloud and a sheered sheep – “the sexiest sheep I’ve ever seen,” like a friend called me – all in one soft, furry package. My Louboutins were “fierce” and the clutch was sent in the nick of time by Dareen’s PR. It started to rain just as we turned on Broome Street but that didn’t stop anyone from hopping the cobble stones and making an entrance, including Karl, flanked by Stephen Gan and Linda Evangelista. It was a star-studded party, with a few live jackets twirling the grand space. My snowflake dress got a gazillion compliments and I met Lisa Bonet!! What a splendid evening it was!

Dress by Chanel (I think it’s Fall 2010); Gold “Lady Max” T-strap sandals by Christian Louboutin; Marble “Le Capri” Clutch by Dareen Hakim.
