James Galanos is one of the big names in vintage. His couture-like garments are the most luxurious, delicate, original and sought after of all the American designers, from the moment he started his first collection in 1951 to far beyond his official retirement in 1998. When you come across a Galanos that’s affordable – his prices at the time were 5 figures – you can’t but do a little happy-dance. I found this amazing, crepe and silk, graphic printed jacket at Marlene Wetherell‘s on 25th Street last week. Not only is the cut fantastic and exactly right, I was immediately drawn to the geometric print, the 60’s allure, the cream color combo, and the fact that the pockets are an illusion. I styled the jacket with a simple, navy, vintage turtleneck sous-pull – my latest obsession is to wear a thin turtle neck underneath sweaters and dresses – a short, black Helmut Lang skirt, opaque black tights, a pair of vintage mary-janes and a vintage Dior purse. The gold circular pendant is by Anndra Neen, the “rustic glam” jewelry line designed by sisters Anette and Phoebe Stephens, whose personal vintage wardrobes I will be featuring here on Wednesday!
