The #NYFW Pictures You Didn’t See on Instagram (for various reasons)

I think everyone will agree that the most memorable moments of New York fashion week weren’t necessarily on the runway. It was damn cold, and we all felt it. Some people were in ridiculous denial and showed up in open toe sandals and bare legs. But the smart ones sported big hats, furry gloves, waterproof boots and padded coats, which was a trend that extended into the Fall collections for 2015. It’s no wonder we saw fur. Global warming will have us all dressing like eskimos.

The stand-out show was definitely Rosie Assoulin. I think it’s time for a CFDA award, guys. She’s in a world of her own, completely devoid of trends and commercial pressure. I can’t wait to put all that fantastic fabric on my body! I also loved the oversized sleeves at Nonoo, the modern 70s look at Derek Lam, the soft silhouettes at Prabal Gurung and the colors at Tanya Taylor. Show-wise we must commend Moncler for giving us the Valentine’s night of our lives. I’ve cried at shows before (at Lanvin when Alber does his little penguin bow and at Moschino’s anniversary show for example), but never this generously. I was a mess, but a happy one. And Alex, you always kill me with your music choices. I run to Gesaffelstein!!

I left New York early to attend a lecture in London, so I did miss a few important, brilliant shows. Had I stayed I would have applauded Delpozo, Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein. But life is not just about fashion. By then I was neck deep into Norman Doidge’s new book on neuroplasticity. Read it, it will change your life.
